Postulation

I postulate, though I do not believe it to be a concerted, or intentional, act, but it is of no consequence that the "lithmus test" for Supreme Court Justices is abortion. Of all the legal doctrines, of all the legal issues, of all of the political issues, of all interests in any individuals walk of life; why does the center of discussion revolve around abortion for the selection of these nine justices to our Supreme Court? Is this all that they delve into on a daily basis? Is this above National Security, or the scores of other jurispreudential questions?

Why is the abortion issue elevated so?

Liberals manipulate the feelings and emotions of individuals with this controversial issue. I was discussing this issue with someone I have quite a deal of respect for, and; though we share similar outlooks from our conservative points of view on the political spectrum, we come to stunning diconnect on the issue of abortion. This is not a stunning revelation by any means, but I discuss it only to illustrate that like-minded individuals can come to different conclusions on this divisve issue.
Erego the foundations and tenets of my postulation. With such a strict, polarizing issue, this would seemingly be the issue to dictate procedural steps in nominating someone to the Court. I would say that most individuals on the left dogmatically believe in abortion rights, and it slowly trails off into moderation amongst those of us on the right, until landing somewhere at the other end of the spectrum.
What I have a problem with is that this force, has become the guiding force in our government; that is, if these justices are supposed to be the gatekeepers of our liberty.
Why has the issue of abortion become such a vaunted test?
Postulation: abortion is devisive, it means a tremendous deal to a smaller sect of the American people, and the people in that smaller sect are wagging the dog. Moderates in the realm of abortion look to any canidate that jurisprudentially believes abortion should be left to the federalist's mode, via state law, and fall for the bigotry spewed against that canidate by that smaller sect. Thus, it is the perfect issue to decide, the rights are protected on a devisive, emotional issue without free and open debate. A win-win for the left.
