"The consciousness of good intentions disdains ambiguity. I shall not, however, multiply professions on this head. My motives must remain in the depository of my own breast. My arguments will be open to all, and may be judged of by all. They shall at least be offered in a spirit which will not disgrace the cause of truth."
-'Publius' The Federalist No. 1
As your humble pundit made mention earlier today, we should refrain from rushing to a conclusion on President Bush's nominee. President Bush has nominated a person for whom he thinks will do the best in her abilities to fulfill those duties as an Associate Justice. President Bush deserves our trust and adoration on many accounts. True, he has let the conservative base down on numerous occasions, but his heart and intentions have always been in the right place. I, your humble pundit, nearly swallowed the poison pill in joining the vitriolic mass of consternation that swept the blogosphere Tuesday. Make no mistake, I still have my reservations about the Harriet Miers, but I am not ready to "give up" because I think President Bush is somehow "weak" in this decision making process. Like most Americans, I do not know who she is, but I do know my President. Conservatives have been battling for the soul of this Court since before I was born. And, President Bush is no fool for he, too, has endured with all of us in this constant fight against this last bastion of liberalism. President Bush has continuously expressed his desire to nominate those in the likeness of some of the Court's most stalwart conservatives, and, it is with such, that I will patiently wait to see who this woman truly is. We only have seen glimpses and snippets of her. Undoubtedly, President Bush, these past 5 years has our best wishes at heart through numerous times of toil and triumph. What should change our minds now? The "Coalition of the Chillin'" is meant to be an expression of patience. It is not an endorsement of any kind for Harriet Miers, which means anyone is free to retract any support for this nominee. Plain and simply, this collection of bloggers is a means through which everyone participating is planning to keep a calm, even keel throughout this process in a show of solidarity. We as a group plan to ascertain the surroundings and goings on before coming to any conclusions.
